Observation details
Seen and heard on the steep slope behind 1475 East Loma Alta Drive. The bird used the same perch for the entire time and frequently sallied forth, presumably to pursue bugs. The bird made "whep whep whep" calls every time it flew out and also while it was perched. After the flights, the bird often bobbed its head up and down while it made those sounds (seen using a low-power headlamp and binoculars). Audio recordings. The bird did not produce any "poor-will-o, poor-will-o" sounds. The air temperature at the time was about 50 F (10 C). The recordings below are also available from Xeno-Canto at: http://www.xeno-canto.org/304192 http://www.xeno-canto.org/304194
