Observation details
Singing loudly and repeatedly from regenerating cut/clearing along the road. Singing one-parted song, a loud, husky, rolling "churry, churry, churry". Mostly stayed hidden in dense birch/poplar/alder thickets, but several times came out into the open to sing from an elevated perch, one time even perching on a dead branch a good 50+ feet in a maple. Gave awesome views from the branch of a small polar, where it sang. Male, with yellow underparts, gray head and back, and spotty black breast band/patch. Pale pink legs and bill. Great patch of habitat for this species, and this bird appears to have a territory established here.
