Observation details
While descending a trail in Jasrota forests, we observed a cup nest occupied by a bluish bird, assumed to be a blue-throated blue flycatcher, the species that dominated the patch in fair numbers. A close look at the image took us to a pleasant surprise with the dull blue head, greyish brown back, white belly and a characteristic beak clearly pointing towards the female of a black-naped monarch, which was later confirmed by secondary sources. The bird is seen occupying the nearly done nest with cob-web spider eggs nicely intertwined around. The team left the spot after 3-4 minutes of silent observations.
