Shows bold facial pattern, forked tail
Observation details
1 male purple finch: strong facial contrast, forked tail, chunky body, tail is relatively shorter compared to body length than in HOFI; did not see any females. No house finches present, nor do we normally see any house finches. This flock of purple finches consistently returns to black oil sunflower feeder for many years (25 years). On other days we see a small flock of up to 5 birds, but during this observation it was just this one male.
