Observation details
*rare; multiple birds seen, all progressing northward steadily and all 3+ miles offshore and thus identifiable primarily by shape. Large shearwaters with long heads and longish tails, broad wings held bowed and with prominent crook at wrist, recalling Osprey. Two seen close enough for better field marks: one showing all sandy brown above and mostly pale underwings, the other just the underwings. When they clapped, flaps were very languid. I have a lot of experience with distant ID of Great vs. Cory’s and am confident Great was safely eliminated. Presumably present partly because of strong SE winds at 3
