About one mile up the Waitangiroto River. Faint cat-like calls can be heard at the beginning, then wingbeats. Birds flew onto the branch of a tall Kahikatea tree where they were recorded. They nest in a colony with about 25 White Herons (Egretta alba). Colony occupies 100 feet along the river, among kowhai, mahoe and tree ferns. Habitat: River.
