Media notes
One of two Bonaparte's Gulls in first-alternate plumage seen and here photographed by Curtis A. Marantz on 9 June 2020 at the Whitewater River delta, north end Salton Sea, Riverside County, California.
Observation details
We saw together on the flats two one-year-old birds that had mostly white heads that had a dusky cap and spot behind the eye, light gray backs, white underparts, and wings that appeared to combine light gray, white, and some duskiness on the wing coverts. I further noted orangey legs and slim, black bills, but I never saw either bird in flight, or even to flap its wings.
