Observation details
Dark storm-petrel with white rump that spent most of the time feeding in Mason Inlet hovering with little wing movement into the wind. It rested on the water and floated briefly in the inlet. For about a minute, it fed at the tide line hovering and patting feet along the sand while feeding next to red knots. Bird was observed for about 25 minutes and I have lots of poor photos but a few are available for ID. Distinct carpal bar extending to leading edge of wing; tail was ragged looking but had a faint dark stripe through the center of the white rump; and end of the tail occasionally seemed notched. Longish wings, held at profile/angles similar to a nighthawk.
