Observation details
Continuing, found earlier in day by Michael Sandoz, and seen also by Holly Cox (to whom I owe many thanks for letting me know quickly about this rarity), and seen by others in morning and early afternoon, including Terry Schiefer. Large Jaeger, thankfully an adult that was fairly easy to identify, with very dark back, dark partial band extending on side at top of breast, dark cap and face, long central tail feathers that looked like broad clumps at tip. When I first arrived about 2 p.m. the bird was not where Terry and others had seen it. But when I was leaving the area, I saw a large bird flying by along near the shore slightly above the water and thought it was probably the Jaeger, so I drove to the nearest turning area and made a loop back around to the original site, and Terry and I found it sitting on the shore again near where it was first seen. Life bird for me. Will add some poorly focused photos because of the very strong winds, but probably June got some better photos that she will add.
