Observation details
200+ in colony in northwest corner of large ponds close to road, in cattails (whereas the Yellow-headed Blackbirds were mostly in California bulrush). Both males and females were streaming in and out of the TRBL colony, the females returning with food, so some might have young in the nest. However, many females were also obviously nest building, and I saw copulation, so perhaps the colony is just starting up. Most were foraging in an irrigated alfalfa field 0.9 miles away, repeatedly going back-and-forth between the colony and the same general area within the extensive alfalfa fields.
