Observation details
Singing on territory (I watched one as it sat for minutes on end and sang from top of a dead tree). Song is a hasty, sliding series of tinny notes followed by an emphatic buzz. A typical warbler-sized bird, mostly black (save for a white belly) with contrasty bright orange patches at the sides of the breast, cutting across the meat of the wing, and at the base of its bulbous tail. We later confirmed that two were, in fact, counter-singing approx. here: 30.671176, -90.959903
