Observation details
Known historical location. Male came to flowering fire wheel near our feeders and a female type visited one of the feeders. Male had purple gorget, rusty sides, relatively long forked tail much longer than that of Costa’s, and long decurved bill. Female bird had long decurved bill, indistinct pale postocular stripe, underparts creamy buff with rich cinnamon buff on partial collar, sides, and flanks, longish tail, and bronze green upperparts. Pics of both individuals.
