Observation details
See comments for circumstance. From notes: Adult Ross's Gull, summer. Smaller than Black-headed Gull, about Little Gull size. Neat and dainty with elongated wings [noticeable] when on water. Small ping-pong ball head with tiny bill. White head although slight pinky wash to it. Thin black collar on throat and sides of neck, thickening on nape. Pale grey saddle. Folded wings projected well beyond tail. In flight darker leading edge to wing revealed. Fairly angular carpal joint and pointed wing tips. White tipped secondaries. Rest of wing pale grey. Wedge shape tail was a very noticeable feature in flight. Rump and tail white. Breast was "cripplingly" pinky which extended to under tail coverts, although not as pinky here. Underwing slightly more sooty than upper wing. Red legs and feet, dark eye and bill. Bill appeared to have a pale base but this was feathering extending onto base of bill. When on water; swam around and picked food [items] off surface. When flying again picked off surface, hovering when doing so. Extremely fine bird.
