Media notes
Female Northern Cardinal singing about 30 feet up in an ornamental birch tree. (Photos: ML238775491 and ML238775481). There is traffic noise because it's Manhattan. Northern Cardinal is not frequent in this park, but later that morning I saw a male NOCA skulking in the planted Fragrant Sumacs -- I wonder if they are nesting here, being very inconspicuous? Or were these birds on the move?
Observation details
A female bird singing 25-30 feet up in one of the ornamental birches. See attached recording and photos. Later I saw a male skulking in the planted Fragrant Sumacs; he was not singing. This species is not common in the park, but I wonder whether this is a pair that has decided to unobtrusively nest here?
