Observation details
Known location, part of the southernmost breeding population of Black-capped Chickadees. Slow “fee bee” two-note call (vs. higher, four-note Carolina Chickadee call), slower and lower “chick-a-dee-dee-dee” (vs CACH). Larger head proportionally than CACH with broader and whiter neck/side (nape) area and more scruffy bib outline. Also notice white wing secondary edges (and outside tail feathers to some degree) and uniformly dark tertial feathers, plus buffy sides. Feathers are typically more well worn at this time of year.
