Observation details
Interesting song and plumage. When I first got on this bird by ear, I thought I was hearing a quietly singing Connecticut. As I approached the sound it began to sound more like a fairly standard Mourning. It was just like the Laurel/Yanny thing where it sounded extremely different at different distances! I have never had this happen with either a CONW or a MOWA before. So I tracked the bird down and got photos. If it is a pure MOWA it is definitely a 2nd calendar year, as the hood is less than full, the chest band is small and asymmetrical, etc. But the malar appeared to have some whitish in it, and I was unclear if this (in combo with the strange song) might be evidence of hybridization.
