Media notes

A covey of about six chicks followed the hen across the logging road as we drove along. Two chicks were caught and began to give alarm calls. The rest of the chicks disappeared under cover while the hen called. The hen spread her tail and ruff and "meowed". She ran around nearby while hissing and made other distracting noises until both chicks were released. While calling, the female stalked along the underbrush, spreading her tail and ruff as she vocalized. Weather: Wind. Other Behaviors: Emit Alarm.
