Observation details
1 male bird, an ABA tic! The bird had been on the RBA for about a week, but this was the first chance we had to drive the 2.5 hour trip to Soulsbeyville, east of Sonora. It was foggy during the drive, and the Smew had not been seen the previous day, which of course concerned us. We arrived at about 10:30 and joined about 50 people on the dike of the town lake, and immediately saw the bird. Lots of pictures. It was not really interacting with any other birds during the hour we watched it, but diving and preening a lot.
