Observation details
Three (3) western Warbling Vireo, singing their raspy jerky songs. This (same birds and same general site as yesterday) appears to be the first documented record of this subspecies in Kansas and the third overall for the state. Interestingly these responded vigorously to playback of the Western subsp. Updated to include recording: Recording certainly not as clear as I hoped, I believe it begins with an Eastern Warbling Vireo singing and is then followed by a Western's more raspy, song with a downward inflection at the end. Will update with further edited recordings once I have time, songs were reminiscent of Summer tanager quality in the field
