Media notes

Habitat: Upper tree limit with sparse spruce and firs standing on short-grassed alpine pasture. Notes: The whizzing sound heard from tine to time (choweee or chooee) comes from the singing males at least one of which was perched on top of a spruce. Since the hen's calls are rarely reorded, I tried first of all to get all of their calls. A better recording of a displaying male (on treetop) is heard towards the end of the tape. Two males displaying in some distance, 2 females calling just in front of me (I was hiding at a few yards distance.) Background sounds: Fringilla coelebs, Turdus philomelos. Other Behaviors: Court. Equipment Notes: Recorder: Marsi C87. Microphone: Sennheiser MD21.
