Observation details
Noticed it in reeds on edge of papyrus first. Showed back only. No darkness on head indicated either this species or juv. African Yellow Warbler. Then the bird flew up to papyrus, where it hid, giving intermittent views, then it went over the path to start poking around in lantana and acacia bushes, and gave better photos. Noticeable features include no clear supercilium, but a suggestion of lighter feathers just above the lores. Bill was long and pinkish. Eye was definitely black, showing no suggestion of slightly lighter colour as shown in S&F and pics of this species on ABID. There was a slightly darker patch across the upper breast, with which the throat contrasted as paler. Flanks and vent were maybe slightly warmer, but not really obviously so. Other key features are all clear on photos. Consulted Brian Finch, who confirmed the ID with certainty.
