Observation details
A large, stocky snipe, in shortish grass close to the Lower Weir (see my attached photos). The flight photos -- attached courtesy of Terry Townshend -- were sent to the author of the definitive paper on the identification of Pin-tailed and Swinhoe's Snipe, who confirmed that, based on its tail structure (that can be clearly seen in Terry's photos), the bird is indeed a Swinhoe's Snipe. There have been many probables by the Wenyu, but this is the first to be confirmed.
