Observation details
Singing from the same fenceposts it was in yesterday. At one point in flew in much closer to the trail allowing Kevin and I to get photos and audio. Audio is diagnostic, not certain on the pics yet. singing Lilian's song, also gave gave Lilian's "zeet" call multiple times at close range. According to field guides and other texts, there is some overlap in the malar coloration of Lilian's and Western. This bird appeared to have a white malar, and never gave any vocalizations of a Western. That, combined with the fact that records of Western X Lillian's hybrids seam to be far rarer than records of Lillian's in Colorado, lead me to think that this is a pure Eastern Lilian's and not a hybrid as others suggested. I am maintaining an open mind to receive feedback from experts though.
