Media notes
Rusty Blackbird
Observation details
Thought to be a Common Grackle the entire time till coming home. We had a blurred photo of it and it being against the sun, all you get is a shape. The tail is long but not long enough to be a grackle. It was a small blackbird a little bit bigger than a waxwing so around 8 to 9 inches long. Long, thin bill. If you study the photo carefully enough, you may notice the head and breast are lighter than the rest of the body making us assume it is a fall male. If we had known it was a Rusty Blackbird from the start, we would try ten times harder to get a better photo. I will photo on soon.
