Observation details
Loose flock slowly moving from bridge end of playing fields towards Duck Bay; generally terrestrial, often totally exposed in centre of football pitches. Flock scanned carefully to check for other sparrow sp. but all Savannah. Subtle variations in plumage noted, including: some birds with smaller, thinner more pointed (overall pinker?) bills vs. others with slightly larger and chunkier bills, more curved (and darker?) upper culmen; several individuals with dark, bold malar stripe on white breast compared to others showing only apparent thin, pale brown malar stripe; considerable variation in colouring of both lesser coverts, greater coverts and scapulars from darker edging onto cream, to dark brown edging onto pale rufous/cinnamon . See two photos attached.
