Observation details
Found this bird on the banks of a fast flowing river at the foothills in Nangal valley of Punjab, bordering Himachal Pradesh. Was perched on the tree. Could click few pics but on seeing my motion flew back into the jungle. The Id has been confirmed by few experts on Ask id of Indian birds link on Facebook. Am attaching the link. Plus I feel it is Crested and not pied because one it is a big bird as compared to pied kingfisher and there is no dark band around the eye. Also in one of the pics the crease of the crest is slightly visible inspite of being covered by the leaves. Plus a rufous area is seen as an indication of a breeding bird.
