Observation details
Fellow birder Tim Carstens joined me in the observation of American Golden Plovers in the field on the opposite side of McAdams Road from the two ponds. We initially observed three golden plovers, accompanied by a semipalmated plover. Soon thereafter, the group was joined by two other golden plovers. The most distinguishing mark on this plover was the broad white stripe that runs over the eye and down the neck and breast. Other marks were mottled gold, black, and white upper parts, black underparts, and black under tail coverts (in contrast with the black-bellied plover which has white under tail coverts).
