Ochraceous and bright overall; eye-ring prominent with "tear drop" posteriorly; bill broad and orangey below; compact overall with fairly high-contrast plumage. Never got particularly close to the bird.
Observation details
Medium empid, sullen, motionless (till it flew off) sitting in a sunny patch near the preserve entrance. Pic and discussion below.
