Observation details
While birding willards island late afternoon i ran into Facindo Fernandez who stated he saw an american white pelican fly by the end of willard’s minutes ago...so i walked towards cedar island scanning for the pelican..when i reached cedar island platform i could see the pelican in the water straight out inline with a 4 level phone tower in the distance...A mature bald eagle flew in the same area and kicked up the pelican ... the pelican had been sitting on the water for 7 minutes before it took flight. It spun around an circled the area for several minutes gaining altitude and was hesitant to leave the area as it paused several times eyeing where it had just left... a couple minutes later it disappeared of the large phone tower flying toward old Saybrook. A graceful flying large bird with a large yellow orangish bill and black flight feathers. Short video and some extremely low quality iphone shots that started at 6:05pm were taken. My first American White Pelican in CT.
