Observation details
One male was seen entering a hole in a dead tree trunk and disappeared inside, then poked its head out of the hole a few times, then perched on the trunk outside of the hole and also flew around to nearby trees, calling. I could hear sounds coming from the hole, so it was obviously feeding nestlings. This dead tree was by the small ravine next to the east shore of the South Oxbow Lake. I heard a few others throughout the area of the park where I was hiking.
