Observation details
While I was on the AKMHS ferry, still tied to the dock in Whittier, a very white gull flew by the window at a distance of about 300 yards. I raised my binoculars and saw a gull about size of Mew Gull but all white. Light black spots on upper wing and on primary tips. It appeared to have only limited black speckling on face. Pale tip to bill. Dark legs.
It was initially flying over the RR tracks heading toward town. It flew to the Anchor Inn hotel where it turned around and flew back to the barge loading area where I lost sight of it behind a stack of shipping containers. About 15 minutes later as the ferry was pulling away from the dock I saw it again flying the same circuit.
I took these marginal photos by holding my cell phone to my binoculars.
