Observation details
Four widely separated Soras, each giving whinny calls, one of them giving repeated kerwee calls. The first Sora was heard whinny calling from 2:23 to 2:54 P.M., well into the productive side channel. This bird was seen by naked eye from 20 feet as it moved quickly through the cat-tail marsh. It reappeared twice at 30 feet, these times seen with binoculars. Sora #2 was heard from the Route 147 side of the main channel at 3:27 P.M.. Sora #3 was heard whinny calling, then kerwee calling near the farthest point upstream (audio tapes). Its kerwee calls continued for a period of 45 minutes. Sora #4 was heard whinny calling at the same time further downstream. First audio of Sora #3, 23 kerwee calls in 60 seconds. Region is well upstream and closer to Route 147, hence the motorcycle sound. Most of the open marshland is nicely buffered from road traffic. Second audio of Sora #3, 11 kerwee calls in 41 seconds. Some traffic sounds from Route 147. Capturing the Sora whinny call requires more professional equipment.
