Observation details
Full disclosure: This pair of harriers were obviously defending a nest or young. I didn’t know where the nest was and was merely walking the trail. I would have loved to stay and take many images of these birds as they tried to scare me out of the area. Instead I let them make a couple of passes at me as I stood on the trail and took some photo’s, and then moved on to let them be. As aggressive as they were I suspect that young have already hatched. Always impresses me how proportionally long a harriers wings are in relation to their body — perfect for their generally low-energy, gliding flight.
