Observation details
These birds bore the brunt of my "vagrant mania"; I have no idea why I thought I could magic one of them into a Hudsonian if I tried hard enough... that's why I stormed towards them, fire and brimstone, anything to flush them for the ID shot... and yet they just sat there! They eyed me blearily, having just woken up, and promptly decided I was absolutely no threat!! The closer I marched, the less concerned they seemed!! Slowly, the mania began to fall away, and I realised that hey! This was a once in a lifetime chance to get the best photos ever of Black-Tails, those smoky brown gems... and so the camera rolled. By the tide-drainage creeks, by the waterfront... I don't say this lightly; these are, quite simply, my best ever photos. The technique, the bird, the Wader, the adversity... this is what it's all about.
