Observation details
Bird was calling and showing well near the confluence of Oxford and Middle Creeks, at times only ~5m away and at eye-level! Had extended views for about 10 minutes as it actively foraged in Coachwood and several Eucalypt sp. Seems to be the 2nd record for Sydney ever (following a WIRES 2015 record from just outside Lane Cove NP, presumably an injured bird) . Both observers had extremely clear and prolonged views and are both 100% confident on the ID. Additionally, White-eared Monarch is not a hard bird to ID as it has no real similar species (The closest species being Pied Monarch and Frill-necked - both North QLD endemics - were ruled out in the field as the bird we saw had clear 'mottled' white patches on the face). JW has seen all mainland Monarch species and as such is familiar with the Family.
