Observation details
Continuing rarity. A Northern Harrier flew over the marsh shortly after we arrived and scared up a small group of Blue-winged Teal. The Garganey flew up and moved with the teal to a different location within the marsh that was a bit more open. Duck about the same size as the teal. Huge white stripe that started just above the eye, went horizontal just below the crown line and tapered off in the nape area of the neck. Oversized black bill. Body of the bird was mostly a finely patterned brown. The sides were a white speckled with light grey. The back had long black and white linearly striped scapular feathers. Adult male.
