Observation details
I thought the bird a winter male, as it was quite blackish, but there was a small amount of gray in the rump, at least at some angles (my photos show this). It had some rusty edges on the back, most prominently on the lower scapulars. The wings were essentially solid black – tertials only very thinly edged with buff, or gray, but it would be hard to say rusty. The most obvious edges, were the whitish edges to undertail coverts – very prominent.
