Observation details
Nice surprise! We were approaching the NRG parking lot around 10 am when We stopped to scan the 64/87 bridge for various Swallows. A high flying swallow caught our eye and as he watched it, Marc R called out “Mississippi Kite!” The Kite and another raptor were circling high over the river and the Swallows, almost directly overhead. The bird had white in wings, very wide fan-shaped tail and an unmistakable outline. It was riding thermals with a Cooper’s Hawk. We watched it for several minutes. MIKI has been reported several times in the past at nearby Anderson Point Park. Photo soon.
