Observation details
Coming to sage blossoms at the back of a house in Boston. Female type Archilochus with very long bill--longer than Ruby-throated. The face was gray as was the crown, and there was a gray cast to the green mantle. First primary was bowed and very broad at the tip. Tail only slightly longer than wingtips when perched. Tail pumped while hovering nearly constantly. Many photographs confirm the identity of this rare Hummingbird to Massachusetts. https://www.flickr.com/gp/jeff_offermann/83w6bj The above album also shows the bird on a subsequent visit. The sky was quite dark and overcast during this visit, making photography a challenge. See Checklist for November 26, 2015 for better images.
