Observation details

Black hood, back and tail. Rufous sides. White belly. White spotting on back and scapulars . Also white spotting on median and greater coverts, forming wingbars, distinguishing it from an Eastern Towhee also seen today near Brushwood parking lot. . Heard raspy mewing call prior to seeing bird. SPTO seen at 9:30 am by 4 observers, including Cici Birnbirg, Nan Buckhardt , Gordon Wood. Seen on trail adjacent to river past large grassy meadow.
