Observation details
Late migrant and even more unusual in light of the reality this wasn't an invasion year. Bird was flushed from rocks at very northeast corner of main harbor, as I turned the corner on the boardwalk. At first, this big white bird flying away from me resembled a Glaucous Gull, but when it landed 2 docks away, it was clearly an all white big owl. The very few tan flecks in plumage highlights this was an older adult, which is even more unusual (as late migrants are most often non breeding young birds). I went to my car to get my camera and as I got back, the bird was already in flight again, heading over to the third dock, whereupon I took some flight shots and later, preening and posing while on the dock. {Photos will be added next week}
