Observation details
Accepted by WBRC. BESW-2006-4. At about 1100, while birding with Scott Mills and Tom Schooley, I was scoping a group of swans in a close cropped pasture in the Chehalis valley at the north edge of Lewis Co, off Goodrich Rd. At a distance, I could see that one of the adults had an unusual amount of yellow on the bill. We approached more closely in the car, getting to within 100 meters, so we could view them in good light. Weather was overcast, cool and relatively calm. One adult with significant yellow patches on each side of the bill, although they did not meet, so there was a strong black stripe down the middle between the patches. Although I did not note it in the field, the videotape shows a shorter, stockier neck.
