Observation details
Flock seen circling around at the coast from just before sunset, for about 20 minutes. Initially no conclusive id made Appeared paler than Common Swift and the sound was unfamiliar to this observer. It was rather deep and mellow compared to other swift screams with which I am familiar. African Black, Mottled, Scarce Swifts excluded by the GiSS, calls and flight action of these birds. Returned to this mystery ID in March of 2020 due to a discussion with Gary Allport and it has been tentatively ID'd as Forbes-Watsons Swift - see sound recording. Sound analysis is being written up as paper for submission to BOC Bulletin.
