Observation details
While looking for winter falcons, I came across a flock of redpolls and thought why not try to pick through them for a hoary? I was able to find two birds that I feel confident in calling hoaries: one male and one female. Both had fine, almost nonexistent streaking on their flanks. Poor quality photos due to nervous birds (vehicles kept flushing them) and falling snow. The one I've attached shows the male: middle wire, trio of birds in the center, middle bird. There may have been more as the birds were moving around a lot and finally deeper into a field where I couldn't see them well.
