Media notes
I began recording at 5:39:39 after the bird’s first long-call, so the first song recorded was the bird’s first of the morning. The bird was initially about 35 meters away, later about 50 meters away after it moved a short distance (though the angle was better). It moved again some distance back from the road just before the end of the first part of this recording, after which I entered the forest and managed to get right up under the bird, which was 35 meters up overhead up at the beginning of the second part of the recording (beginning at 5:59:33 after missing about 12 songs). The bird continued to move around a bit, but it remained about 30 meters up and in the same general area, apparently flying back-and-forth between two nearby trees, a large one near the top of the slope near the east end of its territory, and the other about 15 meters down the slope part way. The bird switched positions and essentially stopped singing after the card filled at the conclusion of the second part of the recording, so the third part of this recording (beginning at 6:46:53 after I missed four songs) has primarily announcements and only one song. I missed single songs from the same general area at 6:48:26 and 6:49:55, soon after I turned the recorder off the third time, but the bird began singing again at 6:50:35, after which I missed one full song which had a descending introduction. The bird was 50 meters away and 30 meters up the canopy of the tree part way down the slope during the fourth part of the recording. I heard two additional songs following the completion of the fourth part of this recording, I think one of these songs was given at 6:59:15, but I am not sure what time the other song was given (though it was before the announcement at 6:59:47). I heard no additional songs before leaving the area at 7:10. the unseen bird was high up in the larger trees within a roughly 1 hectare grove of tall trees but an open understory on the north side of the road opposite the forestry study plots. Mostly overcast but the clouds were higher today and there were some patches of blue sky, calm, probably in the mid-70s though the thermometer read 83° F. ML: 75 Hz high-pass scientific filter applied in Adobe Audition CC 2015 to all segments. ML: Subject identified by recordist as Xiphorhynchus guttatus polystictus but assigned to Xiphorhynchus guttatus [guttatus Group] to conform to eBird Taxonomy (v. 2016). -[Brad Walker 16Aug2016]. This individual was recorded multiple times and can be found in the following ML records: 222362, 222372, 222382. Equipment Notes: Sennheiser powered using phantom power and with filter in flat position and attenuator off for all recordings. Nagra input set at 2 mV / Pa and low-pass filter in flat position unless noted otherwise.
