Observation details
After an attempted birding at Vazhachal forests from the morning, I was returning back through Malayattoor. The Kallala-Kannimangalam area was thick with tall trees and bushes but with little shrubs. The ground was hard covered with dry leaves. It is 2.15 pm. I first saw the bird in silhouette as it was dark in that area and it looked like a Pond Heron. I slowly reached near the bird without making any noise. In a five meter distance, I could see that the bird is sleeping and is not aware of my presence. It looked like a Striated Heron. I moved little more closer. Slowly sat on the ground. Took my camera and adjusted its settings and took some five shots. The bird opened its eyes and looked at me. It was not completely free from its sleep. The eyes were half open. Took another five shots. The bird then slowly walked and positioned in such a way that a ray of sunlight filtering in, between the leaves fell on its face. I took some more shots. It slowly walked into the bushes nearby and disappeared. The bird was in my vicinity from 2.15 pm to 2.30 pm. The first shot was clicked at 2.17 pm and the last shot at 2.23 pm.
