Observation details
Female or immature male photographed in top of tree, flew off before I could record its call which sounded somewhat vireo like, I wasn't sure if a Purple or Cassin's Finch when I got home and listened to some calls and looked at photos, photographed in treetop high above so tough to evaluate primary extension but seems short, notched tail, streaks on breast not very crisp, subdued face pattern but not a House Finch, bill has a bit of curve near tip, identified by expert birders as a Purple Finch rather than Cassin's, photos:
