Observation details
**RARE | continuing at this location since 1 December 2015. Found by the homeowner, Diane Terry and seen daily at their feeders and often roosts in a dead apple tree behind the house. Large dove; light brown to tan on the back and wings; obvious "white wing" formed along the distal edge. Slight darker capped look (from lighting?). Chest gray-brown fading to pale gray on the belly. Bright red (orange-red) iris with obvious blue orbital skin. Thin black horizontal line on the bottom edge of the auricular. This is the third record from Waldo County (in eBird), the two others coming from a John Wyatt's yard in Winterport on 2-6 November 2012 and 25-29 July 2014. Requests from homeowners: The bird usually comes in to the feeders (and trees) around 9:00AM and leaves by 2:00PM so please limit visits to that timeframe. Birders are welcome to visit beginning today (Sunday, 13 December) “through the remainder of the week, or until [it] departs.” "All feeders are visible from the road and folks may park along the road, perhaps staying on the west side of the road.” The address is 310 Blanket Lane in Prospect, and her “house is very close to the road making the feeders quite visible.”
