Observation details

SEEN!!! Heard from 8:02 to when I walked back to the road at around 8:30. I saw two birds fly in and perch on snags. In alert posture, their white throats and tail-corners were obvious. While they were perched, I started ML219800791, then they flew out of sight and I began to hear a bizarre bubbling sound, which I think might have been some sort of display or copulation. Soon after this, the pair flew right over me. Distinctive silhouette; relatively large head and short tail, with wings raised while gliding. That was the last time I saw the poorwills, but I continued to hear a few calling from open areas and the road above the canyon.
