Observation details
*Locally scarce north of Puerto Natales. I initially noted one individual on my checklist but upon further inspection my images clearly reveal two individual Dolphin Gulls. The first individual I encountered was in 1st basic plumage (photographed with Hotel Rio Serrano in the backdrop). Dusky dark hood with heavy yellowish bill. Dark upperparts with distinct black tail band. The second individual was photographed approximately 15 minutes later and reveals a classic adult with worn tips to flight feathers. This observation was noteworthy in that these were the only two Dolphin Gulls we encountered during our multi-day visit to Tierra Del Fuego.
